Can't defend takedown in loss
Amil lost to Jamall Emmers via unanimous decision (27-29, 27-30, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Amil makes his living as a high-volume striker with elite cardio. That's all well and good, except for when you're giving up seven takedowns and 8:35 worth of control time like he did here against Emmers. Amil was effective on the feet in the early going before it all fell apart. He simply wasn't able to remain upright long enough during the final 10 minutes to get back in the fight. Already 35 years old, Amil has now lost back-to-back bouts. He'll almost certainly be fighting for his job his next time out.

Suffers first pro defeat
Amil lost to Jose Miguel Delgado via KO (knee) at 0:26 of Round 1 at UFC 317 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Amil entered with an undefeated professional record, having displayed great durability in the past. Yet all it took was one knee to the face from Delgado about 20 seconds in to put him down for the first time. Hyder lacks technical skill, but he's super aggressive. That's typically served him well in the past, but when you fight that recklessly every time out, this is a potential outcome. The 35-year-old California native should be back in short order.

Next fight scheduled
Amil is scheduled to compete against fellow featherweight Jose Delgado at UFC 317 in Las Vegas on June 28, per Nolan King of MMAJunkie.com.
ANALYSIS
Amil's next objective is a more convincing win. Prior to UFC 317, his only 2025 fight has been a split-decision win over William Gomis, who Amil upset in a bout more favored to his opponent.

Picks up split-decision upset
Amil defeated William Gomis via split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29) at UFC Vegas 103 on Saturday.
ANALYSIS
The first two rounds saw a mere difference of four combined significant strikes between the two men, hence the split-decision result. Round 1 seemed to go in the direction of Gomis, and Round 3 is when Amil started to pull away, so the second round was what was seemingly up for grabs. It went Amil's way on a night in which he racked up 115 significant strikes, a takedown and 2:43 worth of control time. He improves to a perfect 3-0 in the UFC and 11-0 as a professional after this upset win.

New opponent given
Amil is scheduled to compete against William Gomis in a featherweight fight at UFC Vegas 103 on March 1, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Amil never fought Nathaniel Wood on Nov. 2 and will not fight again in 2024, a year during which he logged TKO wins over Fernie Garcia and Jeong Yeong Lee. Both Amil and his next opponent are undefeated in UFC action.
