Dominates in first UFC victory
Fernandes defeated Mohammad Yahya via TKO (punches) at 4:45 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Fernandes struggled mightily in terms of grappling in his split decision defeat to Marc Diakiese last November, but he looked excellent in the stand-up in that fight, and that carried over to this one against an overmatched Yahya. Fernandes kept things simple, destroying his opponent's front leg with repeated low kicks. With Yahya hobbled and unable to move properly, Fernandes fired off a vicious one-two combination that closed the show. Every opponent that faces the Brazilian moving forward is going to test his wrestling, and rightfully so given how solid he has looked on the feet in his first two UFC bouts.

Draws Yahya in Abu Dhabi
Fernandes will take on Mohammad Yahya in a lightweight matchup at UFC Abu Dhabi on August 3, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Fernandes dropped his relatively short notice UFC debut to Marc Diakiese last November. He did win the battle of significant strikes but was taken down three times and controlled for most of the fight. He now draws another relative newcomer in Yahya, who lost his debut via decision to Trevor Peek last October.

Drops decision in UFC debut
Fernandes lost to Marc Diakiese via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 27-30) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
ANALYSIS
Making his UFC debut as a +170 underdog, Fernandes didn't look as good as the "split decision" term would lead you to believe. He had all sorts of issues handling the grappling game of Diakiese, giving up three takedowns and 8:38 worth of control time. Ultimately, Fernandes simply didn't generate enough offense to earn the win. The 28-year-old Brazilian earned a ton of stoppages on the regional scene prior to his UFC arrival, but this was a poor start to his company run.

Making UFC debut

ANALYSIS
Fernandes is set to make his UFC debut in November against Marc Diakiese. The Brazilian lightweight currently boasts an 8-1 record in his professional career.
