Kante has undergone a hamstring surgery and is expected to be sidelined for four months while he recovers, Chelsea announced Tuesday. This rules him out of the World Cup.
ANALYSIS
Kante has been out since August with a hamstring injury and this surgery will ensure he's out until around February, meaning he will miss the opportunity to defend his World Cup title with France in Qatar. Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have generally been Chelsea's midfield starters since new manager Graham Potter arrived, but Mason Mount, Jorginho, Conor Gallagher, Denis Zakaria and even Carney Chukwuemeka remain options for the club as well.
