Sheldon, the No. 5 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, spent five seasons at Ohio State and averaged 17.7 points, 3.8 assists and 3.2 rebounds in 33.6 minutes per game as a senior. The sharpshooter finished with a career 35.0 percent mark from deep on 4.1 attempts per game and averaged 1.9 steals per night as a Buckeye, including 3.5 swipes in 2022-23 -- she played in only 13 games that season. Sheldon projects to be a solid three-and-D option as a pro, but it's unclear how big her role will be as a rookie. Dallas has a trio of stars in Arike Ogunbowale, Natasha Howard and Satou Sabally, leaving Sheldon with a crowded path to playing time. The Wings are finalizing a deal to send Sheldon and the No. 8 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft to the Sun in exchange for DiJonai Carrington, the No. 12 pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft and a second-round 2026 pick swap Saturday, Rachel Galligan of Winsidr.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Sheldon will be shipped to Connecticut after averaging 5.4 points, 2.5 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 23.3 minutes across 40 appearances, including 26 starts, for Dallas as a rookie. With Natasha Cloud and Marina Mabrey currently being the only two other guards on the Sun's roster, Sheldon should be in store for plenty of playing time in 2025.
