Marine Johannes

30-Year-Old GuardG
 New York Liberty  WNBA
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Johannes sat out the 2024 WNBA season due to the league's prioritization rule, but she re-signed with the Liberty ahead of the 2025 campaign and appears poised to return to the WNBA following her year overseas. Johannes made 59 regular-season appearances (15 starts) with New York between the 2022 and 2023 seasons, averaging 8.6 points, 2.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in 22.2 minutes per game. She'll presumably come off the bench to begin the 2025 campaign, as the team should start Sabrina Ionescu and Natasha Cloud in the backcourt, but minutes should be available off the bench since Betnijah Laney-Hamilton is slated to miss most of the year due to a knee injury. Johannes and Ivana Dojkic will presumably compete for reserve minutes, and it wouldn't be surprising to see Johannes emerge as the No. 3 guard given her previous role with the team. Pours in 10 points Monday
GNew York Liberty
May 12, 2025
Johannes supplied 10 points (4-8 FG, 2-6 3Pt), two rebounds, two assists and one block across 19 minutes during Monday's 84-61 exhibition game win over the Toyota Antelopes.
ANALYSIS
Johannes finished as the Liberty's third-leading scorer Monday, providing a spark off the bench. She averaged 11.0 points, 3.0 three-pointers, 2.0 assists and 1.0 rebounds across 20.3 minutes per game in two preseason outings. The 30-year-old guard remained overseas during the 2024 campaign but will likely carve out a meaningful role with New York in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2023
2022
Johannes is a precarious fantasy case annually due to the variable nature of her season debut date. It seems she's likely bound for a late arrival in 2023 again, and it's unclear exactly when it will come. Also working against her is the revamped Liberty roster, including additions of Breanna Stewart, Jonquel Jones and Courtney Vandersloot, likely making Johannes a bench fixture when she joins the team. Even so, Johannes is a lethal shooter off the bench, finishing with the second-best mark in the league from deep last season (43.7 percent). Given Sabrina Ionescu's ability to flex to point guard, Johannes can sub in for either of the backcourt duo and should produce enough to warrant a draft-and-stash spot early in the season in many leagues.
Johannes hasn't played in the WNBA since 2019, but she's believed to be working on a deal to return to New York in 2022. She averaged 7.2 points, 2.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds across 19 minutes during her rookie season and has continued her development overseas in the meantime. Johannes shot north of 40 percent from beyond the arc in each of the last two seasons while playing in Europe and presumably factor into a sharpshooting role, likely tagging in for Sami Whitcomb. Even if she does make the trip overseas, Johannes would still miss a chunk of the 2022 campaign while playing out the remainder of her season in France.
