Dolson was a fairly reliable contributor for New York in 2022 but was little more than a streaming option last year after the Liberty put together a superteam that included stars like Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. However, Dolson should have a chance for a fresh start with the Mystics after agreeing to a multi-year deal with the team during the offseason. She spent the first three seasons of her career in Washington and should have a chance to carve out a sizable role in 2024 after Elena Delle Donne announced that she's stepping away from basketball. It's not yet clear whether Shakira Austin will be ready for the start of the regular season after undergoing hip surgery in December, but Dolson should be the favorite to serve as the starting center if Austin is sidelined. Dolson signed a multi-year contract with the Mystics on Wednesday, Kareem Copeland of The Washington Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Dolson was selected at No. 6 overall by Washington during the 2014 WNBA Draft, and she spent the first three seasons of her career with the Mystics. However, she was traded to the Sky ahead of the 2017 campaign and spent five years in Chicago before joining the Liberty. The 32-year-old served exclusively as a starter during her first year in New York but operated off the bench last season as the Liberty's superteam took shape. Dolson should have a chance to compete for a larger role in Washington, especially since Elena Delle Donne has announced that she's stepping away from basketball.

Dolson started all 36 regular-season games last year, her first campaign in New York, and posted 8.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.2 steals-plus-blocks across 22.9 minutes per game. However, the veteran is expected to operate in a reserve role this year after the offseason acquisitions of Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones. Han Xu provides a little more upside than Dolson and could push the veteran to the No. 3 center by the end of the season. Either way, Dolson is firmly entrenched behind Jones and may only be a serviceable fantasy asset if the 2021 MVP has to miss time. Given her inconsistent production and Jones' arrival, Dolson's fantasy outlook for the 2023 season is bleak, though she does have value as a handcuff option.
After winning the championship with the Sky last season, Dolson opted to sign a multi-year deal to return home and play in New York. She averaged 7.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists in her fifth and final campaign with Chicago, but her ability to stretch the floor – 40.4 percent from three – gives her added value as a big. Dolson figures to be a key part of New York's rotational depth during the 2022 campaign, whether that's as a starter alongside Natasha Howard in the frontcourt or as one of the first players off of the bench.
