2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bauer pitched against Dodgers minor-leaguers while with an independent club during spring training, but that was the extent of his involvement in MLB action during 2024. He spent the season in the Mexican League and was named an All-Star with a 2.48 ERA in 14 starts. Bauer hasn't pitched in the big leagues since the first half of 2021, when he was placed on administrative leave while the league investigated an alleged violation of its domestic violence policy, for which he was later suspended. The Dodgers released him in early 2023 after the suspension was reduced rather than returning him to the active roster. Read Past Outlooks

Returns to Japan
Bauer signed a one-year contract with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball on Jan. 27.
ANALYSIS
Bauer will be embarking on his second stint in Japan, after he spent the 2023 season with the BayStars following his release from the Dodgers in January of that year. The Dodgers cut Bauer loose shortly after MLB reduced his suspension from 324 games to 194 games following a successful appeal, and while the ban is now considered served, the 34-year-old right-hander hasn't seemed to gain any real momentum in his efforts to return to affiliated ball. He'll instead continue his career with the BayStars after he spent the 2024 campaign in the Mexican League, where he turned in a 2.48 ERA and 120:21 K:BB in 83.1 innings for Diablos Rojos del Mexico.

Bauer is a 32-year-old free agent who hasn't pitched in MLB since the first half of the 2021 season. He missed the rest of that season while on administrative leave while the league investigated an alleged violation of its domestic violence policy, an investigation which eventually led to a record-long 324-game suspension. The ban was later reduced to 194 games. He spent 2023 with the Yokohama DeNA BayStars in Japan, where he recorded a 2.76 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 19 starts. Bauer's agents were at the Winter Meetings trying to sell teams on their client, but it's unclear if there's any interest among MLB clubs.
