2026 Fantasy Outlook
Burnes entered 2025 with at least 28 starts in four consecutive years, but he took the mound just 10 times last season before he tore the UCL in his right elbow and required Tommy John surgery. The right-hander was pitching well prior to the injury with a 2.66 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 63:26 K:BB over 64.1 innings. He's been one of the most consistent elite starting pitchers in baseball the past five years, and there's no reason to think he won't return to a similar level post-surgery. However, that may be a difficult ask in his first season back from Tommy John, with Burnes potentially returning as early as July. Fantasy managers can look to stash Burnes to open 2026 in hopes of gaining an ace during the second half, but there's no guarantee he's immediately pitching like his usual self or that he'll be able to come back that quickly.
