Hendriks' return to the majors appeared imminent last season when he embarked on a minor league rehab assignment last August - 12 months after undergoing Tommy John surgery in 2023. The veteran tossed five scoreless innings across six appearances between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester, but endured multiple setbacks to prolong his Red Sox debut and shift his focus to 2025. Hendriks' four-seam fastball velocity should be monitored closely this spring, as his K-rate surged when he was throwing the pitch in the upper-90's between the 2019 and 2022 seasons. If he's sitting in the mid-to-low 90's during Grapefruit League play, a sub-30 percent strikeout rate should be expected. This would align with his K-rates from 2015 to 2018, where he averaged between 94.7 and 95.3 mph on his fastball.
