Rodon bounced back from a terrible 2023 debut with the Yankees with a respectable 2024 season. It is a rarity these days to see a pitcher earn a decision in 78 percent of their starts, but Rodon earned 16 wins and nine losses in 32 starts while nearly matching his career high for innings set in 2022. Rodon's 16 wins and 195 strikeouts were welcomed contributions to both the Yankees' roster and many fantasy rosters, but the ratios were not nearly as welcome. The 1.22 WHIP was not as bad as the 3.96 ERA, and the latter can be directly tied to the 1.6 HR/9 Rodon pitched to last season. The popular thought is Yankee Stadium punishes him, when in fact he has permitted more homers on the road (24) than at home (22) since joining the Yankees. The home run issue was extremely prevalent in 2024 off his fastball, as 21 of his 31 homers came off a fastball that has become much more hittable lately than it was prior to him joining the Yankees. Rodon added a cutter in 2024 while dialing back the fastball to help offset that damage, but the fact remains Rodon's fastball is not what it once was. He needs a usable third pitch against righties, because they are inflicting nearly all the home run damage of late, hitting 40 of the 46 homers off the southpaw. Read Past Outlooks
