Shoulder issues delayed the start of Kaprielian's 2022 season, but he was activated at the start of May and remained in the rotation the rest of the way, making 26 starts. The results for the 2015 first-round pick were rather uninspiring. Even with help from both a very pitcher-friendly home park and the league-wide drop in offense, the righty still managed a forgettable 4.23 ERA, and his 4.63 FIP and 5.04 SIERA suggest things could have been a good deal worse. His 17.0 K% and 10.2 BB% were both much worse than league average. Among pitchers who threw at least 100 innings, only Dakota Hudson was as poor in both categories, and Kaprielian doesn't keep the ball on the ground like Hudson does. Further depressing Kaprielian's stock is the fact that he underwent shoulder surgery early in the offseason. Even if he fully recovers and gets back to last year's form, he'll be an unappealing choice, and the chances of continued shoulder troubles can't be ignored given his injury history.
