After winning NL Reliever of the Year and leading MLB in saves in 2024, Helsley didn't pitch to expectations last season. His strikeout and walk rates suffered and he had trouble producing outs with his four-seam fastball (.422 BAA). Helsley managed to hold a firm grip on closing duties for St. Louis, but his status a pending free-agent made a trade inevitable. The hard-throwing righty was dealt to the Mets and relegated to a setup role for the remainder of the season. Helsley acknowledged last August that his struggles were a result of tipping pitches, but poor performance persisted through the remainder of 2025.
