Alvarado was dominant to open 2025, posting a 1.09 WHIP with a remarkable 22:2 K:BB across his first 15.2 innings for Philadelphia. He also racked up three wins, six saves and three holds during that span, clearly establishing himself atop manager Rob Thomson's circle of trust. Soon after, the southpaw was handed an 80-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. The 30-year-old returned in mid-August and struggled before his season ended prematurely due to a left forearm strain. On the plus side, Philadelphia exercised Alvarado's $9.5 million club option for the 2026 season.
