Marchan has been organizational depth for Philadelphia and called upon whenever JT Realmuto or Garrett Stubbs has had an injury. Marchan has spent the better part of the past four seasons in Triple-A as an Iron Pig, splitting catching duties with whomever else was on the roster. He's shown a strong willingness to accept walks over the past two seasons as he continues to gain his minor league experience. He has been in the Philadelphia organization since 2016 and has all of 112 plate appearances with the big league club, and half of those came during the Covid season of 2020. Marchan is now out of minor league options, so he either beats out Garrett Stubbs in camp for the back up spot or he is exposed to waivers where his switch-hitting abilities may garner him a chance at more playing time with a second division club who can afford to give the 25-year old catcher a chance to succeed or fail at the big league level. We are more interested in Marchan should a relocation happen before the season starts, because Realmuto does not exactly share his playing time well. Read Past Outlooks
