Fortes made 99 starts at catcher for the Marlins in 2024 and remains dependable as ever in the field, but his .577 OPS was only a marginal improvement on his 2023 figure. The 28-year-old's bat was never a strength in the minors either, so a major turnaround shouldn't be expected after he posted a .216/.261/.309 slash line over the past two years. Fortes' work behind the plate should help him retain a roster spot given the need for stability at the position, but Miami is likely to test out their options at catcher in 2025.
