Fortes made 99 starts at catcher for the Marlins in 2024 and remains dependable as ever in the field, but his .577 OPS was only a marginal improvement on his 2023 figure. The 28-year-old's bat was never a strength in the minors either, so a major turnaround shouldn't be expected after he posted a .216/.261/.309 slash line over the past two years. Fortes' work behind the plate should help him retain a roster spot given the need for stability at the position, but Miami is likely to test out their options at catcher in 2025. Fortes ended up playing in 108 games and had a .204/.263/.299 slash line, which is a sharp drop from the .696 OPS he posted in 2022. He still provided a strong presence behind the plate, which should give him a strong chance at sticking with the big club for 2024. Fortes was never a major offensive threat during his minor-league career, so he seems unlikely to break out and become a solid option for fantasy managers. Christian Bethancourt was acquired in December and is a likely bet to split catching work.
