Garnering few looks in free agency
Belt disclosed March 29 during an appearance on the "JD Bunkis Podcast" that he hasn't received many calls from teams interested in signing him for the 2024 season, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Belt noted that he had a far easier time fielding interest following the 2022 season, when he was limited to just 78 games due to knee issues. He signed a one-year, $9.3 million contract with the Blue Jays last January and went on to slash .254/.369/.490 with 19 home runs and 43 RBI over 404 plate appearances while appearing in 103 games in 2023. Baggarly notes that the Mets have been the only team to offer Belt a guaranteed contract -- though it was almost entirely incentive-based -- and that other teams considered him a fallback option.

Belt finally moved on from San Francisco last offseason and inked a one-year deal with Toronto, where he posted 19 homers, 43 RBI, 50 runs and a .254/.369/.490 slash line in 103 contests, which is his most games played since 2019. The veteran had a sub-.700 OPS for the first time in his career the previous year, but he rebounded in his age-35 campaign despite a career-worst 34.9 percent strikeout rate. Belt still walked at an impressive 15.2 percent clip, but a .211 xBA and .437 xSLG could be signs of trouble when coupled with the heavy swing-and-miss. He made 69 appearances at designated hitter and 29 at first base and seems unlikely to play the field much more than that going forward. Belt's 2024 fantasy ceiling could vary significantly depending where he signs this winter, but he's a safe bet to miss some time with injury regardless and will carry some inherent risk as he enters his 14th MLB season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not much interest
Belt didn't receive much interest league-wide during the offseason, with the Mets being the only team to offer a guaranteed contract, according to Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Multiple teams apparently considered Belt a fallback option in case other pursuits didn't pan out, and even the Mets offer was almost fully based on incentives. The 35-year-old is hoping to land a guaranteed deal but simply hasn't received many calls, but that could change given the plethora of injuries early this year. Belt clubbed 19 homers with an .859 OPS last season, though he also had a 34.9 percent strikeout rate and was limited to 103 games due to back and hamstring injuries.
