2023 Fantasy Outlook
Despite some initial uncertainty around the Giants closer role at the start of 2022, expectations for Doval were high in his first full big league season. The 25-year-old quickly solidified himself as San Francisco's primary closer, tallying 27 of the Giants' 39 saves for a 69.2% share that was ninth highest among closers. Doval's slider was nastier than ever - in fact, it was one of the best pitches in the league as measured by Statcast run value (-17). However, his cutter wasn't performing to expectations (.340 BAA) despite his 99th percentile velocity. A two-week rough stretch forced Doval to rethink his approach and he introduced a new sinker in mid-July. The pitch was a game changer for him, as it produced a -17.3 degree average launch angle that was the lowest against any pitch in the majors (min 50 BBE). With an already intimidating arsenal, the sky is the limit for Doval in 2023. He should be among the top 10 closers drafted. Read Past Outlooks

ANALYSIS
Doval has allowed four hits without issuing a walk, and has picked up four strikeouts. The right-hander is expected to serve as the closer for the Giants in 2023, and while there have been some hiccups in his short professional career, his stuff suggests he has the potential to be one of the best relievers in baseball.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Doval got his first taste of the majors last April, but it did not go smoothly. Through his first 13 appearances, the 23-year-old registered a 7.59 ERA and was charged with three blown saves. He allowed four home runs in 10.2 innings before the Giants sent him back to the minors. Fortunately, Doval was a different pitcher upon his September call up. Armed with a wipeout slider (59% pitch %) and fastball (41%) that nearly topped out at 102-mph, he finished the campaign with a 4-0 record and three saves over 14.1 scoreless innings. He even served as the Giants closer during the NLDS with all their relievers available. Doval has exciting upside and a bright high-leverage future ahead of him, but banking on him being San Francisco's full-time closer might be a mistake with Jake McGee and Tyler Rogers back for 2022. He should still be in the mix for saves, but how many is difficult to project at the moment.
