2025 Fantasy Outlook
Another year, another season with back issues for Yelich, which this time required surgery and caused him to miss the final two-plus months of the campaign after also spending time on the IL earlier in the season. He was limited to 73 games but was back to producing at a near-MVP level when available with 11 home runs, 21 stolen bases and a .315/.406/.504 slash line, which is by far his best performance since he won an MVP and posted a 1.046 OPS over his first two years in Milwaukee during 2018 and 2019. The major difference for his production in 2024 was the launch angle, which at 5.2 degrees was his highest mark since 2020, and a career-high 40.7 percent pull rate. Having finally undergone the necessary surgery, there's hope that Yelich's back problems will now fully be in the rearview mirror, but that may be an optimistic assumption as he enters his age-33 campaign. He could see more time at designated hitter given the injuries and Milwaukee's strong outfield depth. If he's clear of the back issues and can sustain the 2024 production, Yelich could be back on the MVP-type path in 2025, but those are a couple big "ifs" that carry plenty of risk for fantasy managers. Expected for start of spring
Brewers general manager Matt Arnold said Monday that Yelich (back) isn't swinging a bat yet but is doing other baseball movements, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
ANALYSIS
Arnold added that Yelich is "in a really good spot right now" and should be ready to go early on in spring training. Yelich underwent a season-ending microdiscectomy procedure Aug. 16 to address a herniated disc in his lower back, an injury which has plagued the outfielder for years.

The veteran outfielder broke out of his two-year funk in 2023, finishing with a .278/.370/.447 slash line to go along with 19 homers, 28 steals (31 attempts) and 78 RBI in 144 games. It's a far cry from the MVP-level production Yelich posted during his first two years in Milwaukee, but it's still a marked improvement on his .737 OPS from the previous two seasons. A .342 BABIP was backed up by an xBA of .277 and xSLG of .450, which indicates his 2023 results should be sustainable. Yelich's chronic back issues continue to linger and cost him nearly two weeks in September, but he's still played in all but 26 games over the last two years. That MVP form is likely long gone as he enters his age-32 campaign, but Yelich will still have plenty of fantasy value with a decent chance at a 20-20 campaign in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Trade possible?
The Brewers could listen to trade offers for Yelich if they decide to rebuild this offseason, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Yelich has five years and $130 million remaining on his contract, as well as a full no-trade clause. That makes him much unlikelier to be dealt than some of his teammates whose team control runs out after next season, like Corbin Burnes and Willy Adames. However, it's possible Yelich would be open to waiving his no-trade clause if he doesn't want to be part of a rebuild in Milwaukee. The 31-year-old no longer looks like a potential MVP candidate but is coming off a fine 2023 campaign that saw him slash .278/.370/.447 with 19 homers and 28 stolen bases.
