That said, it comes as little surprise that the Pirates handled his workload carefully, as he worked primarily out of the bullpen and rarely in longer than three-inning stints with Triple-A Indianapolis in 2022. His potential value to fantasy managers moving forward could hinge on how the Pirates use him in 2023, as they could opt to return him to a starting role. Assuming his body holds up, Bolton could be a back-end starter as scouting reports suggest he has three average pitches with average command. If he sticks in the bullpen, he likely doesn't have the velocity to work in high-leverage roles, leaving him irrelevant in most fantasy formats.
