2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Red Sox called up Hamilton from Triple-A Worcester early in April when Trevor Story sustained a shoulder injury. The utility infielder wasn't expected to be a regular, but Story's injury lingered, and Vaughn Grissom's groin/hamstring left a hole at second base that was never adequately filled. Hamilton answered the call, playing 56 games at shortstop and 36 at second base. His walk rate wasn't as good as in the minors, but an elevated BABIP allowed Hamilton to take advantage of his base-stealing prowess - he finished second on the team with 33 steals in 98 games. His season ended in late August due to a fractured finger, but Hamilton made a greater impact than his .248/.303/.395 line might suggest. The club is expected to go with a Story/Grissom middle infield, so Hamilton will have to win a utility backup role. Red Sox manager Alex Cora is unlikely to waste a roster spot on a pinch-running specialist. Read Past Outlooks

Steals base as pinch runner
Hamilton entered the second game of Saturday's doubleheader as a pinch runner and stole a base in a 2-1 loss to Baltimore. He started the matinee contest and went 0-for-2.
ANALYSIS
Hamilton stole his ninth bag of the season and was in scoring position during an eighth-inning rally but was stranded there. He's tied for second on the team in steals, with three of his nine thefts coming as a pinch runner. Hamilton may provide hidden value even in a part-time role, but he's in the starting lineup for Sunday's contest, getting the call at shortstop for a resting Trevor Story.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Hamilton graduated to Triple-A Worcester to start 2023 then got his first taste of MLB, as the Red Sox dealt with injuries and poor production from their middle infield. The speedy Hamilton, who swiped 57 bases for the WooSox in 2023, had two steals and batted .121 in 15 games for Boston. The Red Sox entered the offseason with a glaring need at second base, which put Hamilton's name in the mix, but the acquisition of Vaughn Grissom from Atlanta in the Chris Sale trade should put an end to the notion of Hamilton breaking camp with a full-time gig. Someone with Hamilton's profile - his plus-plus speed is his best asset - needs to get on base with regularity. He draws walks at a decent clip but there's a lot of swing-and-miss, too. All signs point to Hamilton opening the year at Triple-A and on the Mass Pike shuttle between Worcester and Boston.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Impressing coaching staff
Red Sox manager Alex Cora said Thursday they believe their best defensive alignment is with Hamilton at shortstop and that the club is "very pleased" with Hamilton both offensively and defensively, reports Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican.
ANALYSIS
The 26-year-old has worked as Boston's primary shortstop over the past couple weeks while Ceddanne Rafaela has manned center field. Hamilton had a slow start to the season offensively and hit .211 in his first 14 games, but since the start of May, he has a .316/.371/.456 slash line with seven steals in 57 at-bats. Despite Cora's praises, Hamilton's defense could use some work as far as the advanced stats are concerned, since he has minus-three DRS and minus-2.4 UZR/150.
