Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Villar made only 11 appearances with the Giants, all in June and July. His .802 OPS with Triple-A Sacramento came at one of the more pitching-friendly parks in the PCL, but overall, that's a hitter's environment and Villar's numbers were pedestrian, especially for a 27-year-old spending his third season at the level. He only logged 37 plate appearances with San Francisco. Villar is best suited as a corner infielder, though he can fill in at second. The club fortified its infield, so Villar's best chance at the major league roster is as a reserve, but that's a longshot. Read Past Outlooks

Makes first appearance of 2025
Villar went 1-for-4 with a run scored during Sunday's 5-4 loss to the Angels.
ANALYSIS
The 28-year-old infielder made his first appearance of the season, joining the 26-man roster after Casey Schmitt (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Villar lined a two-out single into left field in the sixth frame before coming around to score on a two-run homer by Sam Huff. Villar played in 15 games at Triple-A Sacramento before joining the active roster, slashing .368/.439/.439 with eight runs scored, seven RBI, a home run and an 8:13 BB:K across 66 plate appearances.

The Giants' offense should benefit from seven home games while Todd Zola also discusses similar favorable situations for a couple other clubs.

Todd Zola explains how projected playing time and a skills-based approach helps him identify upside plays late in a draft, as well as leading him to put Aaron Judge at the top of his personal rankings.
Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
After mashing 36 home runs between Triple-A Sacramento and the big leagues in 2022, Villar came into 2023 with a clear path to regular at-bats between third base and second base. Unfortunately, he got off to a wretched start, putting up a .558 OPS with a 33 percent strikeout rate through his first 30 games, at which point he was sent back to the minors. Villar never recovered and played sparingly with the Giants the rest of the way. He slugged again last year at Sacramento, but as a 26-year-old in the Pacific Coast League, that should be taken with a grain of salt. At the major-league level, the now-27-year-old has a .683 OPS, a 32.1 percent strikeout rate and a 34.6 percent hard-hit rate. Villar might not figure very prominently in the Giants' plans for 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Could return to majors
Villar could soon be recalled from Triple-A Sacramento after J.D. Davis suffered an apparent ankle injury during Tuesday's game against the Cardinals, per Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com.
ANALYSIS
Villar was removed from Sacramento's game Tuesday after Davis exited with the injury. The 26-year-old Villar spent the first six-plus weeks of the season in the majors, but he was demoted in mid-May after he posted a .558 OPS through 30 games. He would likely fill a utility role if he rejoins the big club.
