Cronin has been shut down at Triple-A since mid-August with an undisclosed injury, and he'll now end up in free agency to make room on Miami's 40-man roster for Christian Roa. Cronin sports a 4.91 ERA and 1.64 WHIP through 22 innings at Jacksonville but should be able to attract a minor-league deal on the open market.

Closer Tanner Scott is a virtual certainty to be traded prior to Tuesday's deadline, but Morosi notes that multiple Marlins relievers could be on the move. Cronin is evidently one of them, and it's not surprising to hear there's interest, as the righty's strikeout rate has spiked to 25 percent in 2024 while he continues to generate ground balls at a 54.2 percent clip. The 26-year-old is not projected to be arbitration-eligible until 2027.
