Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
McCray's 2024 was interesting considering he had spent each of the past three seasons mired in both levels of A-ball. The 2022 season included a fun statistical line of .291/.383/.525 with 21 homers, 92 runs and 36 steals in Low-A, and 2023 saw him hit .255/.360/.417 with 14 homers, 101 runs and 52 steals in High-A. McCray went to Double-A to begin the season, made it to Triple-A before reaching the major leagues where he put up some rather forgettable numbers. McCray always had a lot of swing-and-miss in his game throughout the minors, regularly striking out in 29.1 percent of his minor-league plate appearances, but he took that to an even higher level, striking out in 43.1 percent of his major-league plate appearances. Other talents such as Tyler O'Neill and Javy Baez overcame massive early strikeout seasons to find later success (and failure), but McCray could also end up being another Keon Broxton or Brett Phillips. Even if McCray makes the club, he will be in a platoon situation hitting in the bottom of the lineup, which severely limits his fantasy viability for 2025. Read Past Outlooks

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Favorite to start?
McCray may enter 2025 as a favorite to be a starting outfielder for the Giants, reports Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Analysis
The 23-year-old finished 2024 as San Francisco's primary center fielder, but Jung Hoo Lee is poised to reclaim that role next season after being sidelined by torn labrum in his shoulder. McCray had a .202/.238/.379 slash line and 43.1 percent strikeout rate over 37 games in his first taste of the big leagues this season, and he'll likely need a better showing in spring training in order to secure the starting spot in right field for Opening Day.
