2024 Fantasy Outlook
A 19th-round pick out of Virginia Tech in 2019, Carpenter bucked the odds by even reaching the majors. He continued to surprise in 2023 with 20 home runs, six steals and a 121 wRC+ in 459 plate appearances. The last of those 20 homers came Aug. 23 -- Carpenter went 34 games without a long ball to finish the season, slashing just .256/.313/.308 in that stretch. In addition to that disturbing trend, Carpenter managed just a .657 OPS against left-handed pitching for the season, leaving open the possibility for a strict platoon role. His overall body of work was impressive enough for Carpenter to project as a regular in Detroit between the corner outfield and DH, but it's understandable to still be skeptical, especially with the way last season ended for him. HIs home park does him no favors. Read Past Outlooks
Blasts third home run
Carpenter went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 5-4 loss to the Rangers.
ANALYSIS
Carpenter has been playing well lately, recording a .321 batting average and four extra-base hits across his last 10 games. While he generally sits against southpaws, Carpenter feasts on righties, and that should allow him to remain a solid fantasy asset moving forward. The 26-year-old broke out a bit last year with 20 home runs, 64 RBI and an .811 OPS, and he could surpass all of those numbers in 2024.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Not expected to be dealt
Trade interest in Carpenter is robust, but the Tigers view him as part of their future, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The lefty-hitting corner outfielder has a career .260/.318/.498 slash line with 17 home runs in 85 games dating back to last season. Carpenter is a bat-first player who sometimes sits against left-handed starters, but he has played every day since July 6, including three starts against lefties. Morosi says the Tigers expect to contend sooner than expected, and Carpenter would be in his prime if the team's window opens on schedule.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
The Tigers, in evaluation mode, called Carpenter up from Triple-A Toledo after the All-Star break. His strikeout rate more than doubled with the jump in levels (to 28.3%), but he totaled 11 extra-base hits -- including six homers -- in 113 plate appearances for a .485 SLG. Small sample warning: Carpenter was 26% better than league average by wRC+. As a 19th-round pick in 2019, Carpenter faced long odds to reach the majors. He's even on the fantasy radar now albeit primarily in deeper leagues as most managers will need to see more. The walk rate was low at 5.3% and his playing-time outlook will remain hazy until things play out in spring training. Carpenter wouldn't be completely out of place on a sleeper list, but with the plate skills he displayed in the majors last year, he could fizzle as quickly as he made the splash.
