The Giants selected Roupp's contract from Double-A Richmond on Thursday, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Roupp came into camp as a long shot to break with the big club, but he won a bullpen job after posting a 2.25 ERA and 13:4 K:BB over eight Cactus League frames. The 25-year-old will likely be used in low-leverage spots initially but could work his way into more pressurized situations.

How does Landen Roupp compare to other relievers?
This section compares his stats with all relief pitcher seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 30 innings)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity, Barrels/BBE %, Balls Hit 95+ MPH %, and Spin Rate are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 30 IP). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.

Farm Futures: Notable MiLB Assignments
James Anderson breaks down this year's most notable minor-league assignments, including the Rangers aggressively sending toolsy infielder Sebastian Walcott to High-A as an 18-year-old.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Roupp, a 6-foot-2 righty whom the Giants selected in the 12th round in 2021, leaned on his dominant curveball to excel across Single-A, High-A and Double-A. Scouts are split on whether he throws a curveball and a slider, or whether it's just one dominant breaking ball that he can manipulate the shape and velocity of. Regardless, lefties and righties alike couldn't lay off his secondary pitches, and Roupp compiled a 2.31 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 69:16 K:BB and 56% groundball rate in 50.2 innings over his final 10 starts of the year, split evenly across High-A and Double-A. He was one of the best pitchers in the minors last season when it came to generating weak contact and strikeouts, so while he doesn't have high-end fastball velocity, Roupp's recipe may continue to work at Double-A and Triple-A this season.
