Colas spent the first half shuttling between Triple-A Charlotte and the South Side. He managed nine hits in 33 MLB at bats, but they were all singles. Colas spent the second half with the Knights, where he finished with a .736 OPS. His strikeout rate is high, though Colas' quality of contact is at an acceptable level. However, he's left-handed and a slow afoot ground ball hitter, thus easy to defend. With a logjam in the White Sox outfield, Colas will get spring training reps at first base for the second straight season. The White Sox may test out Colas at first base during spring training, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports.

As Romero noted, a move from the outfield to first base could improve Colas' odds of making Chicago's Opening Day roster. Colas saw just 13 games of big-league action last season. He slashed .273/.368/.273 with just four RBI and zero extra-base hits across 38 plate appearances. The White Sox have a plethora of capable outfielders, including Andrew Benintendi, Luis Robert, Mike Tauchman, Austin Slater, Miguel Vargas and Dominic Fletcher. Colas would give Chicago a left-handed bat to pair with Andrew Vaughn at first base.

There was quite a bit of hype around Colas when he signed with the White Sox as an international free agent in January of 2022 and he further fanned the flames in his first year of MLB-affiliated ball, slashing .314/.371/.524 in 526 plate appearances between High-A Winston-Salem, Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He then lit it up in the Cactus League last spring to earn a spot on Chicago's major-league roster leading into the 2023 season. It was a storybook rise, but what came after was alarming. Colas posted the eighth-worst OPS (.571) of the 328 big-league hitters who logged more than 250 plate appearances and was twice demoted back to the minors. He batted .190/.238/.293 against lefties and racked up 71 total strikeouts to just 12 walks. The hype has waned, so much so that the 25-year-old outfielder will likely go undrafted in most standard leagues for 2024.

Tommy Pham is sure to be traded and Luis Robert could also be on the move, either of which would provide an opening for Colas.
