2025 Fantasy Outlook
Scott signed a minor-league contract with Houston last offseason and parlayed a strong spring into a spot in the Astros' Opening Day bullpen. The 32-year-old journeyman tweaked his arsenal to throw more four-seam fastballs (92.7 mph on average) and fewer sliders and sinkers; the latter two combining for 80-plus percent of his pitch mix over the previous two seasons. This drastic change - cutting the usage of both his slider and sinker by 25-plus percent - produced much better results. Scott's 25.2 percent strikeout rate wasn't remarkable, but still a career-best and above league average. Unfortunately, his walk rate ballooned to 12.4 percent, suggesting his 1.17 WHIP from 2024 likely won't be sustainable. There's room for Scott to improve, but he's likely to be used in low-leverage spots by manager Joe Espada in 2025. Read Past Outlooks

Loses roster spot
Arizona designated Scott for assignment Saturday.
ANALYSIS
Scott had his contract selected from Triple-A Reno on June 10 and allowed nine runs on 13 hits with a 7:4 K:BB over six appearances spanning nine innings while with Arizona. Prior to that, he posted a 5.40 ERA across 16.2 frames as a member of the Astros. Scott's removal from the 40-man roster Saturday made room for the Diamondbacks to select the contract of fellow reliever John Curtiss from Reno.
