                2025 Fantasy Outlook

While Kinley's disastrous first half of 2024 (7.65 ERA, 1.75 WHIP in 40 innings) cannot be overlooked, the 33-year-old was actually serviceable for fantasy purposes after the All-Star break, posting a 3.75 ERA and 1.00 WHIP across 24 frames. His overall numbers weren't pretty, but Kinley led Colorado with 12 saves and a 32.4 percent team save share. The right-hander also led Rockie relievers with 15 holds, 72 strikeouts and a 3.22 Win Probability Added. Kinley continues to ride the success of his slider (63 percent usage), but his four-seam fastball has not been effective for years. The 7-year-pro was shut down in September due to elbow inflammation, but assuming he's healthy for spring training, he'll likely head up a 2025 closer triumvirate alongside Victor Vodnik and Seth Halvorsen. Bumpy Atlanta debut
Kinley gave up two hits and a walk in a scoreless seventh inning during Thursday's extra-inning win over the Reds. He struck out one.
                  Analysis
Making his debut for Atlanta after being acquired from Colorado on Wednesday, Kinley was brought in with the game tied 3-3 and nearly made a mess of things, loading the bases with one out before getting Spencer Steer to pop out and fanning Jake Fraley. With closer Raisel Iglesias surprisingly still on the roster after the trade deadline, Kinley will be on the fringes of high-leverage work for his new club while Pierce Johnson and Dylan Lee continue to handle setup duties.

Kinley has made more than 25 appearances just twice in six seasons, as injuries have been a constant throughout his career. The right-hander opened last season on the 60-day IL after undergoing elbow surgery in July 2022. He was activated last August and struggled through seven appearances before returning to the injured list with elbow inflammation. Upon his return in September, Kinley was given the opportunity to close for the Rockies, converting a career-high five saves. His upper-90's 4-seamer wasn't effective (.500 BA, .875 SLG), so he'll need to regain some confidence in that secondary offering this spring. Assuming health entering 2024, Kinley should be in Colorado's mix to close again, but health and performance make him a risky bet for double-digit saves.

                  Out longer than expected?
Kinley is dealing with an elbow injury but recent MRI results were not encouraging and he could be out longer than expected, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
                  Analysis
Kinley got the results back from the MRI on Monday and the Rockies now believe he will be out longer than they initially hoped, which is a blow to the team's relief corps since he posted a 0.75 ERA across 24 innings before landing on the injured list. He'll consult a surgeon this week whose specialties include Tommy John surgery, among other areas, and while the Rockies have yet to make a decision, things do not look good for the 31-year-old right-hander.
