2022 Fantasy Outlook
Williams missed most of last year due to a sprained left wrist that required surgery in late October. He played the first five games of the year and then didn't see the court again until March 21. During his brief regular season run and the Bulls' foray into the playoffs - a first-round loss to the Bucks - Williams played 30-plus minutes in only nine games, with four occurring in the postseason. In his 22 total appearances, the sophomore averaged 9.6 points, 4.4 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.1 combined steals-plus-blocks in 26.1 minutes. He saw sparse usage (12.3%), but he shot an impressive 51.0 percent from the field and hit 1.0 three per game at 44.0 percent. Williams should remain in a catch-and-shoot offensive role this season - Lonzo Ball, Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic dominate the offense - but he'll start at power forward and has a clear path to 30-35 minutes per game as a 3-and-D specialist in the frontcourt. As a rookie, he ranked 185th in per-game fantasy production over 27.9 minutes per game. There's reason to consider him with a flier in standard drafts when factoring in Williams' expected minutes increase and additional development. Read Past Outlooks

Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary

Williams was born Aug. 26, 2001 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the son of Janie and Eddie Williams. He has one older brother, Kobie, and both of his parents played basketball at Johnson C. Smith University. One of Williams' first jobs was delivering flowers for his mom's shop. Williams attended West Charlotte High School, where he was a four-year starter. During his junior season, he averaged 20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 2.8 steals and was rated a consensus top-50 prospect in his class. He committed to playing college basketball at Florida State before his senior year of high school. As a senior, he averaged 22.1 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.8 blocks and led the team to the 4A State Championship game. Williams also played in the Jordan Brand Classic. During his first season at Florida State (2019-20), he was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team and was also named the Sixth Man of the Year. Williams studied Sport Management at FSU. After his freshman season, Williams declared for the NBA Draft. Williams came off the bench for all 29 games he appeared in during his first and only season with Florida State, but his raw potential was evident as he shot up draft boards in the offseason. Despite only averaging 22.5 minutes per contest, the 6-foot-8 power forward scored 9.2 points per game, including one three-pointer made per contest. He came on strongest in the last month of the season, putting up 11.5 points and 5.5 rebounds over the team's last 10 games. Williams was also a more-than-capable defender, averaging a steal and a blocked shot per contest. He was 17th in the ACC in defensive rating and fifth in the conference in block rate. When it was all said and done, Williams made the 2019-20 ACC All-Freshman team and was awarded ACC Sixth Man of the Year honors. There wasn't an NCAA Tournament in 2020, but Florida State finished the year ranked No. 4 in the country in the final AP poll and would have been firmly in contention for a No. 1 seed.

Blocks three shots in win
FChicago Bulls
March 24, 2023
Williams contributed 10 points (3-12 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, three blocks and one steal in 27 minutes during Friday's 124-96 win over the Trail Blazers.
ANALYSIS
Williams racked up four combined steals and blocks in the win, salvaging an otherwise empty performance. Despite being afforded a huge opportunity this season, Williams has been unable to make any progress in terms of lifting his fantasy game. In almost 29 minutes per game, he is barely inside the top 150, making him a far better target in deeper formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Working his way out of slump
FChicago Bulls
November 28, 2022
Williams indicated "I started out in a slump, and I got myself out of that," following Sunday's practice. "I think I got myself out of that mentally. That's definitely hard to do in this league, especially when you don't know how you're going to play game to game. So, I just tried to take it into my own hands and say, 'if anybody's going to get me out of this, it's going to be me.'"
ANALYSIS
Williams is averaging 12.8 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.0 blocks in 29.1 minutes over his past four appearances. During that stretch, he's shooting 57.1 percent from the field and has gone 10-for-15 from three-point range. Playing with guys like Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan can make it difficult to hunt your own shot, but it appears like Williams is finding his fit in Chicago's offense and will look to continue his strong shooting against Utah on Monday.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2021
2020
Williams was a surprise selection at No. 4 in the 2020 NBA Draft, but he put together a nice rookie season as one of the youngest players in the league. The forward started all 71 games he appeared in and averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 combined steals-plus-blocks in 27.9 minutes. He was also relatively efficient with shooting splits of 48/39/73. That resulted in Williams ranking 185th in fantasy on a per-game basis, but his availability led to him ranking 113th in total production. He's farther along defensively than offensively, where he often relies on other players to put him in position to score, and he leans heavily on mid-range jumpers. Williams was given a long leash in 2021 Summer League, where he averaged 21.0 points on 19.3 shots per game. However, he wasn't especially efficient (37.9 FG%) and committed nearly twice as many turnovers than assists. Heading into 2021-22, the 20-year-old will likely remain in a low-usage offensive role, especially given the additions of Lonzo Ball and DeMar DeRozan. It's conceivable that he'll be worth a late-round flier in standard fantasy leagues, but a lot would have to break right for it to be worth rostering him over the course of a season. As it stands, he appears to just be a role player on a competitive team.
Many didn't expect Williams going No. 4 in the draft, but nevertheless, he will now join a young and rebuilding Chicago squad. Williams has tremendous upside despite his mediocre averages with Florida State last season. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward averaged 9.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks while shooting 45.9 percent from the floor and 83.8 percent at the charity stripe with the Seminoles. Assuming Otto Porter remains the starting small forward and Lauri Markkanen the power forward, Williams will presumably come in off the bench and battle for minutes with veteran Thaddeus Young. As a rookie, we shouldn't expect Williams to be a great fantasy contributor, limiting his fantasy relevance exclusively to deep formats.
