Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Trendon Watford, brother of pro-basketball player Christian Watford, was born in Alabama during November of 2000. Watford started his high-school career with Shades Valley High School in Irondale, Alabama while attending Irondale Middle School. Watford moved to Mountain Brook, Alabama to attend Mountain Brook High School during his four years of high school. During these four years, Watford became a five-star prospect and broke multiple Alabama high school records including the all-time rebounding record. Watford also led Mountain Brook High School to three consecutive high school state championships from 2017-2019. He committed to play college basketball for the Tigers of LSU. Watford was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2020 after putting up 13.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his first year at LSU. Watford originally declared for the 2020 NBA draft but decided to return for his sophomore year at LSU. During his sophomore season, Watford recorded a career-high 30 points against Alabama in the SEC Tournament. He averaged 16.3 points and 7.4 rebounds during his second and final year at LSU before hiring an agent and declaring for the 2021 NBA draft. Watford went undrafted but signed a two-way contract with the Portland Trail Blazers in August of 2021.

Watford agreed to a one-year, non-guaranteed contract with the Nets on Thursday, Michael Scotto of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS Watford was productive in a reserve role over his first two professional seasons with the Trail Blazers, but he was surprisingly waived by the team June 30 shortly before the start of the new league year. He'll end up catching on with Brooklyn and will get the chance to compete for a spot on the opening night roster, though the fact that he's on a non-guaranteed deal may work against him. In his 62 appearances for Portland in 2022-23, he averaged 7.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.1 minutes while shooting 56 percent from the field.

Watford's 15.9 percent assist rate trailed only Jakob Poeltl and Jusuf Nurkic among all qualifying bigs last season, per CleaningTheGlass.
ANALYSIS Watford racked up 130 assists versus 71 turnovers while playing 19.1 minutes per game for Portland last season. On an AST:Usage ratio, only Blake Griffin, Jarred Vanderbilt and Goga Bitadze were more frequent passers. Watford's facilitating abilities are a potential X-factor in carving out a role for a Brooklyn team thin on playmaking. He's worth monitoring.
Watford saw little court time during the early part of his first NBA campaign, but he played 30-plus minutes in 11 of 15 games following the All-Star break and averaged 14.3 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.9 blocks during that stretch. A leg injury kept him out of Portland's final eight contests, but that didn't dampen the impression he made on the organization as an undrafted rookie. To that point, the Trail Blazers terminated Watford's two-way contract and signed him to a four-year deal in mid-February. The addition of Jerami Grant in the offseason means that Watford isn't going to reprise his late-season starting role, but he could carve out decent minutes off the bench. Watford isn't likely to be a major fantasy asset next year, yet his MVP performance in the Las Vegas Summer League championship game this July further validates that he belongs in the NBA.
