2022 Receiving Projections

Heading to Lincoln
Gilbert committed to Nebraska on Thursday, joining the program as a transfer from Georgia, Hayes Fawcett of On3.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Nebraska marks the third stop for Gilbert, who began his career at LSU as a consensus five-star recruit in 2020 before moving on to Georgia prior to the 2021 season. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound tight end caught 35 of 56 targets for 368 yards and two touchdowns during his true freshman campaign with LSU, but after sitting out the 2021 campaign for personal reasons, he failed to take hold of a sizable role in a deep Georgia tight-end room in 2022. Gilbert, who arrives at Lincoln with three years of eligibility at his disposal, should head into training camp as the leading candidate to take over as Nebraska's top tight end following Travis Vokolek's move to the NFL.

2021 Fantasy Outlook
Gilbert is a transfer from LSU who will act as a sort of hybrid tight end/wide receiver that has become so prevalent in the game in this day and age. The No. 1 tight end in the class of 2020, Gilbert snagged 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns in eight games before opting out of the remainder of the campaign with the Tigers. Gilbert is expected to eventually play wide receiver exclusively, as the Bulldogs do have Darnell Washington at tight end, who was ranked as the No. 2 player at that position behind Gilbert in the class of 2020. The loss of George Pickens to a torn ACL in March only furthered the need for another pass catcher at the wide receiver position. Gilbert should be a matchup nightmare for opposing defensive backs, especially in the red zone.
