Heading to NFL
January 1, 2024
Milton announced Monday via social media that he will forgo his remaining eligibility at Georgia to enter the 2024 NFL Draft.
ANALYSIS
Milton turned in by far the best season of his college career in 2023, carrying 121 times for 790 yards and 14 touchdowns over 13 games. He didn't prove to be a major receiving threat during his four-year run in Athens, so he may be limited mostly to an early down role at the next level.

2021
Milton was the most efficient Georgia running back last season, averaging seven yards per tote despite receiving just 85 carries on the year. He also scored eight times, though the Bulldogs had plenty of mouths to feed, and that will continue to be the case in 2023. Kenny McIntosh is in the pros, but Daijun Edwards returns, as does bruising sophomore Brandon Robinson and early enrollee Roderick Robinson II. Despite the glut of talented rushers, there remains a glaring hole in terms of pass catching out of the backfield. McIntosh hauled in 43 passes alone a season ago, while Milton, Edwards and Branson Robinson combined for just 20 receptions otherwise. Whichever running back shows the most improvement in the passing game could gain a bevy of touches in an offense that may also look different with a new quarterback in the form of Carson Beck and a new offensive coordinator in the form of Mike Bobo.
The top two running backs from last year’s National Championship squad are gone, so Milton and Kenny McIntosh will ultimately vie for carries. As can be expected with a Kirby Smart backfield, the two will likely split carries, at least to begin the season. Milton rushed 56 times for 264 yards and a touchdown last season as a sophomore. He averaged 4.7 yards per tote. McIntosh was far more productive than Milton as a receiver last season, so it remains possible that Milton is used more in early-down sets. However, Daijun Edwards and freshman Branson Robinson could also see some touches, making this backfield a jumbled mess and ultimately one where a committee takes shape.
Georgia's crowded backfield makes Milton a tough player to get a read on for the upcoming season. Seniors Zamir White and James Cook top the depth chart and project to absorb a large percentage of the snaps, but Milton is too talented to not be in the mix. The 220-pounder averaged 5.3 yards per carry in an injury-shortened freshman season and can be a direct backup to White in obvious run situations. Milton likely provides more utility for DFS than a season-long roster spot, at least during draft season, but he is a talented back that could carve out a larger role than one might expect given his placement on the depth chart.
