2025 Fantasy Outlook
Pierce had a mini-breakout in 2024, leading all qualified receivers in yards per catch (22.3), yards per target (11.9) and aDOT (21.4), with each of those numbers rising for a second straight year. He scored on seven of his 39 catches, including three TDs of 40-plus yards, but he rarely saw shorter passes to complement the deep stuff and thus finished with less than five targets per game for a third time in three pro seasons. The 2022 second-round pick may be capable of using his 4.41 speed and big frame (6-3, 211) to succeed in shorter areas of the field, but the odds of finding out for sure in 2025 don't look good, as the Colts are bringing back fellow WRs Michael Pittman and Josh Downs while giving QB Anthony Richardson one last shot to win the starting job. Pierce is the one Indianapolis pass catcher that might actually benefit from Richardson's chaotic style of play, but it would likely still be in the form of sporadic spike weeks rather than steady volume. Pierce (concussion) is in line to practice Wednesday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce has missed the last two games, but his looming ability to practice Wednesday is a positive step ahead of Sunday's game against the Cardinals. The wideout practiced fully last Wednesday and Thursday before downgrading to a 'DNP' listing Friday, so his level of participation as the Colts begin their Week 6 preparation will be notable.

2024

2022
Pierce has averaged 554 yards and two touchdowns in his two years with the Colts. In each year, the quarterback play has been questionable. In his career, the receiver has been frequently used as a deep threat. That’s a role that Pierce could retain in 2024. However, the team drafted Adonai Mitchell, and if the rookie has a solid training camp, it may be a formality that Mitchell takes over the starting role and relegates Pierce to No. 4 receiver duties. If Pierce somehow holds onto the starting role and Anthony Richardson stays healthy, Pierce has the potential to build on his early-career numbers. Ultimately, it would seem that Mitchell will win the starting role at some point. As a result, Pierce may not be in position to see regular targets.
Pierce started 12 of his 16 games as a second-round rookie last year and accounted for nearly as many deep targets (15) as every other Colts wideout combined (18). He caught seven of those for 243 yards and a TD, demonstrating his 4.41 speed at times, but managed only 350 yards on his 63 targets within 20 yards of the line of scrimmage. And while he'll soon play with strong-armed rookie Anthony Richardson -- possibly Week 1 -- it's unclear if Richardson has the accuracy or Pierce the route-running skills to turn it into a potent connection. The 6-3 wideout at least is in good position to retain a perimeter starting role across from Michael Pittman, as third-round rookie Josh Downs and free-agent signing Isaiah McKenzie mostly figure to compete for slot snaps.
While he never had huge stats in college, Pierce was a three-year starter at Cincinnati and capped things off in 2021 with an 884-yard, eight-TD campaign. It put him in the discussion as a mid-round pick, and he ultimately ended up going to Indy in the second round (53rd overall) after boosting his stock with a stellar combine workout (4.41 40, 40.5-inch vertical at 6-3, 211). Pierce may now be the downfield threat for new Colts QB Matt Ryan, who otherwise has Michael Pittman, oft-injured Parris Campbell and Ashton Dulin as the leading candidates for playing time at wide receiver. Pittman cleared 1,000 yards last year and is a heavy favorite to lead the team in targets and receiving again, but Pierce has a real shot to become Option B or C.

No contract talks
WRIndianapolis Colts
July 1, 2025
Pierce and the Colts have not discussed a contract extension, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Pierce is entering the final year of his rookie deal and has established a key role as a deep threat in the Indy offense. However, the team has already committed to Michael Pittman on a substantial long-term deal, and they also drafted tight end Tyler Warren in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. That could make Pierce expendable, particularly as Adonai Mitchell projects to fill a similar role in the offense if he can develop in his second season as a pro.
