Chase Brown

Chase Brown

24-Year-Old Running BackRB
Cincinnati Bengals
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The Bengals appear to favor Zack Moss as their starting running back after signing him to a two-year, $8 million contract in free agency, though the pay isn't prohibitively high if Brown looks like the better player this summer. The Bengals might more so need a rotation between the two, for the sake of both players. Moss has struggled to stay healthy dating back to college and does no good for Cincinnati if he's injured, with history suggesting he'll get banged up if tasked with large workloads each week. Brown can at least provide relief, and there's a chance the former Illinois standout and 2023 fifth-round pick eventually takes the starting role in Cincinnati. He's a capable runner and receiver both, and he's actually heavier than Moss if the most recent height/weight listing are to be believed (215 pounds to 205). Brown is also younger and much faster than Moss (4.43-second 40 vs. 4.65 seconds), giving the second-year pro a real chance to play a lot of snaps in what should be a quality Bengals offense. Goes for 143 yards on 27 touches

Brown carried the ball 22 times for 86 yards while catching five of seven targets for 57 yards in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Chargers.
ANALYSIS
Brown continues to be the bell cow for Cincinnati's backfield, surrendering no carries to fellow running backs while producing 143 yards on 27 total touches. The sophomore out of Illinois failed to extend a modest three-game touchdown streak, but it's hard to scoff at this kind of production from a player that was likely snagged off the wire early in the fantasy season. Brown will enter Cincinnati's bye week with 957 yards from scrimmage and seven total touchdowns in as many games played (12) as his rookie season.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Brown should be taken more seriously than the typical fifth-round pick after demonstrating an adept skill set as both a runner and receiver at Illinois, along with strong athletic testing at the combine. Brown (5-10, 209) isn't built for a workhorse role in the NFL, but he has the long speed (4.43 40) and short-area burst (127-inch broad jump) to pose an explosive threat as a runner and receiver. The last two years he rushed for 2,648 yards (5.3 YPC) and 15 touchdowns and caught 41 of 49 targets for 382 yards and three touchdowns (83.7 percent catch rate, 7.8 YPT) in 22 games for Illinois. The Bengals let Samaje Perine walk, and Brown is faster and more skilled than both Trayveon Williams and Chris Evans. With Joe Mixon seemingly tempting league disciplinary scrutiny with a pair of bizarre off-field events, Brown could be closer to the field than most assume.

Team adds potential competititon
RBCincinnati Bengals
November 7, 2024
Brown could see competition for touches moving forward, as Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports that the Bengals acquired Khalil Herbert from the Bears on Tuesday in exchange for a 2025 seventh-round draft pick.
ANALYSIS
Brown seemed set to take on a workhorse role after Zack Moss was declared out for the rest of the season due to a neck injury. While it's possible things will still shake out that way, the addition of Herbert could cut into Brown's workload. Herbert fell out of favor with the Bears in 2024 but has a robust career average of 4.8 yards per carry on 372 regular-season rushing attempts.
