Injuries derail season
Chark appeared in seven regular-season games for the Chargers in 2024, making four catches (on 10 targets) for 31 yards and a touchdown.
ANALYSIS
Chark signed a one-year deal in the spring and likely was pegged to take over the deep-threat role in the Chargers offense left behind by the departure of Mike Williams. However, a hip injury and then a groin injury to follow delayed the LSU product's team debut. The missed time left Chark unable to catch up, as he also missed a game as a healthy scratch. Set to be an unrestricted free agent this spring, the 28-year-old could be a candidate for a second opportunity, or he may have to look elsewhere to be on an NFL sideline in 2025.

Rams TE Tyler Higbee returned to his old role for the start of the playoffs and came out on fire, only to suffer an injury that leaves him uncertain for the next round. RW's Jerry Donabedian has the scoop.

The wild-card playoffs conclude Monday with Vikings playing the Rams. Erik Siegrist previews the game.

The Texans insist on playing safeties in the slot, which might be a way of asking for trouble from Ladd McConkey.

Chark tied a career high with 15 appearances last season, after missing 22 games from 2020 to 2022. Not much else went right for him, with 35.0 yards per game being his worst average since his 2018 rookie season. Chark was only partly to blame, of course, as the Panthers offense was a complete disaster and coach Frank Reich insisted on putting overmatched rookie wideout Jonathan Mingo in a near-every-down role. Chark should be in a better situation this year, joining his fourth team in as many seasons, though his 2019 breakout in Jacksonville (73-1,008-8) is a distant memory that's vastly outweighed by the slew of ensuing mediocre seasons. While not assured of a starting role, Chark does at least have a decent chance at one after the Chargers got rid of WRs Mike Williams and Keenan Allen this offseason. The 27-year-old figures to compete for playing time with Joshua Palmer, 2023 first-round pick Quentin Johnston and 2024 second-rounder Ladd McConkey, in an offense directed by former Ravens coordinator Greg Roman.

Bolts' WR3 sans Palmer
Chark will be the Chargers' No. 3 wideout behind Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston for Saturday's AFC wild-card game against the Texans due to Joshua Palmer being ruled out with a foot injury, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Palmer's foot injury prevented him from playing in Week 18 against the Raiders. Chark played a season-high 37 snaps on offense in that contest, and his lone catch late in the second quarter went for a six-yard touchdown. The Texans' secondary will likely hone in on McConkey on Saturday, and with Johnston working through an illness and thigh injury, Palmer and tight end Will Dissly could see more looks from quarterback Justin Herbert in the passing game.
