Unimpressive in Saturday's start
Thompson-Robinson completed five of eight passes for 17 yards and an interception in Saturday's 22-13 preseason loss to the Browns.
ANALYSIS
Facing the team that selected him in the fifth round of the 2023 Draft, Thompson-Robinson got the start but split drives with 2025 sixth-round pick Kyle McCord as the game progressed. Neither quarterback was able to get much going -- the Eagles had only 88 yards of total offense on the afternoon, and one of their two touchdowns came on a pick-six by rookie safety Andrew Mukuba. DTR isn't going to unseat Jalen Hurts or Tanner McKee at the top of the depth chart, and his hold on the No. 3 spot could be tenuous if Philly views McCord as the better developmental project.

The Browns selected Thompson-Robinson in the fifth round of the 2023 draft. A five-year starter at UCLA, Thompson-Robinson is familiar with the pro-style offense that was run by Bruins coach Chip Kelly. Like Deshaun Watson and Josh Dobbs ahead of him, the rookie is a dual-threat quarterback. The Browns weren't necessarily looking QB in the draft, but he checked the appropriate boxes -- mobility, accuracy -- and they view Thompson-Robinson as a potentially long-term fit as a backup.

Renewed opportunity for '25?
Thompson-Robinson is the only Browns quarterback currently under contract that projects to be healthy for the start of the 2025 season, Daniel Oyefusi of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Deshaun Watson recently re-ruptured his right Achilles tendon less than three months after suffering the initial tear Oct. 20, so he's now projected to miss significant time during the 2025 season. Jameis Winston will be an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year and Bailey Zappe is a restricted free agent, leaving Thompson-Robinson is the only healthy signal-caller under contract. However, the 2023 fifth-round pick completed just 51.7 percent of his passes for 440 yards with no touchdowns and six interceptions across his seven appearances in 2024, upping the chances the Browns invest the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft on a quarterback.
