Rest-of-Season Projections
Bound for Steel City
The Steelers selected Sawyer in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 123rd overall.
ANALYSIS
Sawyer was a linchpin of the Ohio State defense in 2024, racking up 59 tackles, nine sacks and seven pass breakups over 16 games. While the linebacker excelled as a pass rusher during his senior season, he lacks the high-end athleticism and twitch among edge rushers at the next level. He looks set to begin his professional career in a rotational role for Pittsburgh.

Startings sans Watt and Herbig
With T.J. Watt and Nick Herbig both ruled out for Sunday's game against the Lions, Sawyer is in line to make his first career start in Week 16, Mike DeFabo of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
The Steelers will be without two of their top three edge rushers in Watt and Herbig for Sunday's game, leaving Sawyer, Alex Highsmith and Jeremiah Moon to take on larger roles against the high-powered Lions offense headlined by Jahmyr Gibbs, Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. Sawyer saw his defensive snap count tick up to over 50 percent for the first time this season during the Steelers' Week 15 win against the Dolphins, but the rookie fourth-rounder has not recorded a sack since Week 2 against the Seahawks.
