2025 Fantasy Outlook
Selected 36th overall last spring, Newton started 11 of his 16 regular-season games as a rookie, recording 44 tackles (six TFLs) and 2.0 sacks. It was a solid showing, but there's some risk he gets moved to a bench role or is subbed out frequently after the Commanders gave Javon Kinlaw a three-year, $45 million contract this offseason. Newton (ankle) is active for Sunday Night Football against the Seahawks.
ANALYSIS
Newton is good to go after being limited at practice throughout the week with an ankle injury that he suffered in Week 8. The defensive lineman will operate as a top reserve option behind Daron Payne and Javon Kinlaw versus Seattle.

Makes Brooks' All-Breakout Team
DTWashington Commanders
July 19, 2025
Bucky Brooks of NFL.com has Newton as the defensive tackle on his 2025 All-Breakout Team.
ANALYSIS
A second-round pick out of Illinois in 2024, Newton was already impressive as a rookie with 44 total tackles, including seven quarterback hits and 2.0 sacks, a pass defensed, a fumble recovery and a forced fumble over 16 regular-season games. However, Brooks feels Newton could take another significant step forward in his second season, citing the fact he should have more responsibility and freedom in head coach Dan Quinn's scheme and become the designated playmaker on the defensive front with his ability to disrupt at the point of attack.
