Evans (shoulder) signed with the Eagles on Monday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Evans will help fill the hole left at safety after C.J. Gardner-Johnson left to sign with the Lions. The 27-year-old played in 15 games for the Saints last year, making four starts and registering a career-low 29 tackles (17 solo). The 2017 second-round pick may compete with Reed Blankenship for playing time and potentially a starting spot at free safety.

2017
Evans came into the 2018 campaign with high expectations after a solid rookie season where he tallied 66 tackles (50 solo), three interceptions and six passes defensed over 14 games. While a toe injury limited Evans to 10 contests, he impressively allowed an anemic 39.6 percent quarterback rating on passes in which he was considered the primary defender. Evans is reportedly still struggling with the troublesome toe as OTAs begin, but if healthy, he's expected to get a fresh start as the starting strong safety in new coordinator Todd Bowles' 3-4 scheme. Evans has displayed both a good nose for the ball and sure tackling over his first two seasons, so he's certainly capable of offering IDP value when playing a full complement of snaps.
Evans started 11 games as a rookie second-round pick, and would’ve started two more if not for a season-ending ankle injury. The ankle isn't a concern going into 2018, allowing Evans the opportunity to build on what was a solid, if easily overlooked, rookie year. Whether Evans lives up to Tampa's hopes as a real-life safety is another question, but for 2018 at least he should provide easy DB2 utility with DB1 upside in his better-case scenarios. If you prorate his numbers over 1,000 snaps, you get a 90-tackle pace.
A 2017 second-round pick, Evans arrives in Tampa with a resume that boasts 99 tackles (66 solo), five interceptions and 11 passes defensed in 25 games over his two college seasons at Texas A&M. The rookie was a force against both the run and the pass in 2016 for the Aggies, but his initial path to playing time with the Bucs is a bit murky, given the presence of capable veterans Chris Conte and Keith Tandy in front of him on the depth chart. However, Evans could find an immediate role on special teams, as he collected 474 yards on 17 kickoff returns (27.9 yards per return) the last two seasons and put in time as a punt returner in the Bucs' post-draft minicamp.
