2024 Fantasy Outlook
Schoonmaker was able to play only eight games as a rookie after being selected in the second round of the 2023 Draft, and he's already running the risk of getting stuck with the injury-prone label. A partial tear of his plantar fascia hampered him last offseason, he underwent shoulder surgery in March, and he was unable to return during OTAs due to a hamstring strain. Jake Ferguson established himself as the Cowboys' starting tight end last year, and even if Schoonmaker is able to stay healthy in 2024, he could have trouble carving out a significant role. Takes step forward in second season
Schoonmaker caught 27 of 36 targets for 241 yards and a touchdown over 17 regular-season games in 2024.
ANALYSIS
The second-year tight end took a step forward with his production, and over a three-game stretch in Weeks 11-13 during which Jake Ferguson was dealing with a concussion, Schoonmaker delivered a solid 14-144-1 line on 20 targets. The Michigan product will head into 2025 in the No. 2 spot on the Dallas depth chart, but if Ferguson deals with injuries once again, Schoonmaker has shown he's capable of handling the starting job.

2023 Fantasy Outlook
Selected in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft as the fifth tight end taken in what was seen as a very deep class at the position, Schoonmaker has the size (6-5, 251) and athleticism to be a solid blocker on the line while contributing as a receiver at the sticks. That's the template the Cowboys have been using at the position ever since Jason Witten left, and while Dalton Schultz's departure this offseason does open up the starting spot, Schoonmaker will have to beat out second-year player Jake Ferguson, who offers similar size and has shown some chemistry in the passing game with Dak Prescott, for the job.

Could shift back to backup role
Schoonmaker could slide down a spot on the depth chart Monday against the Bengals, as Jake Ferguson participated in Wednesday's walk-through session, per David Moore of The Dallas Morning News.
ANALYSIS
Ferguson is trending up in his recovery from a concussion that sidelined him for Dallas' past two games. Including the game in which Ferguson got hurt, Schoonmaker has thrived as Dallas' top tight end, catching 14 of 20 targets for 144 yards and a touchdown in a three-game span. In nine games prior to Ferguson's injury, Schoonmaker had just eight catches for 56 yards. Ferguson still needs to clear the NFL's five-step concussion protocol in order to play in Week 14.
