Late-season return from retirement
Barrett, who retired from the Dolphins before training camp began and then resumed his career in December with the Buccaneers, finished the 2024 regular season with one tackle in one game.
ANALYSIS
Barrett returned to Tampa Bay after the Dolphins waived him from the reserve/retired list and logged 12 snaps in Week 18 against the Saints. Barrett also played five snaps in the wild-card loss to the Commanders and logged a solo tackle in that contest, and he's slated to return to the open market again when the new league year begins March 12. Whether Barrett opts to continue his career remains to be seen, but if he confirms he remains interested in playing, the Buccaneers and multiple other teams will likely be very interested in exploring a deal.

Barrett suffered a torn Achilles in Week 8 of last season but is expected to be ready for training camp, when he'll begin a quest to collect double-digit sacks for the third time in the last five years. He's never quite recaptured the level of dominance he managed during a 2019 campaign in which he compiled 19.5 sacks, but he's proven an excellent fit in Todd Bowles' aggressive defensive scheme overall. However, Barrett likely will have an uphill battle to achieve full physical and even mental health in the earlier portion of the 2023 season following the tragic passing of his young daughter this offseason.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Intends to play this season
Barrett wants to play in 2025, Mike Florio of NBC News reports. Agent Drew Rosenhaus indicated over the weekend that the veteran edge rusher was "definitely going to play this year."
ANALYSIS
Barrett missed almost the entire 2024 season after initially signing a one-year deal with the Dolphins but then opting to retire before Week 1. The 32-year-old indicated his desire to return to the game in November, but by then he was no longer in Miami's plans. Barrett eventually cleared waivers and wound up back in Tampa Bay, playing a handful of snaps in the regular-season finale and the team's wild-card loss to Washington. Given his tumultuous 2024, it's not clear how many teams will be interested in bringing in Barrett, but his 59.0 sacks in 132 career NFL contests will have some appeal to organizations in need of pass-rush help.
