Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Bagent attempted two passes in limited 2024 action. He remains Caleb Williams' projected backup quarterback if he holds off Case Keenum by Week 1. The third-year pro showed poise in four 2023 starts, but minimal upside. Entering a contract year, Bagent offers no fantasy value unless injuries push him into a starting role. In that case, Bagent's fantasy value could be enhanced in new coach Ben Johnson's offense. Read Past Outlooks
Nabs two-year extension
Bagent agreed to terms Wednesday on a two-year, $10 million contract extension with the Bears, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Bagent has clearly impressed new head coach Ben Johnson throughout training camp and the preseason, and the commitment of a new two-year contract is a concrete indication that he's beaten out Case Keenum (leg) for the No. 2 quarterback role behind Caleb Williams. Across two preseason appearances thus far, Bagent has completed 26 of 41 pass attempts for 299 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception. His final chance to log exhibition reps before Week 1 will come Friday on the road against Kansas City.

2023
The Bears moved on from Justin Fields this offseason, but they kept his No. 2 in Bagent, who will back up rookie Caleb Williams this season. A 2023 undrafted free agent, Bagent played five games, including four starts, last year when Fields was injured. He completed 65.7 percent of his attempts, mostly because he checked down so often. His 5.8-yard average target depth ranked 43rd among 44 quarterbacks with at least 140 attempts, and his YPA was a 6.0 (39th). The Bears' poor supporting cast didn't help matters. That’s not the case this season after the Bears traded for WR Keenan Allen, drafted WR Rome Odunze ninth overall and signed RB D’Andre Swift to join No. 1 WR DJ Moore and TE Cole Kmet. Bagent has rushing upside (109 yards, two TDs last season) and should hold off free-agent acquisition Brett Rypien for the backup job.

Getting starting consideration?
A few veteran players have asked for Bagent to start amid Caleb Williams' struggles, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Williams hasn't thrown a touchdown pass since Week 8 while ranking last among all quarterbacks with 4.9 yards per pass attempt over that span. Bagent showed himself to be a competent game manager last season, posting a 2-2 record in four starts. Williams will remain the starter in Week 11 against the Packers, but another dud from the rookie could lead to more calls for Bagent to step in.
