Doesn't survive roster cuts
The Chargers waived Heins on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
After going undrafted, the South Dakota State tight end signed as a free agent with the Chargers in April. Heins didn't accrue a catch until the Chargers' preseason finale against the Cowboys on Saturday, when he posted one reception for 11 yards. He'll explore his next options assuming he clears waivers.

Could make team as UDFA
Heins has a realistic chance of making the Chargers' roster out of training camp, according to Daniel Popper of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Heins has been participating in the Chargers' offseason program after joining the team as an undrafted free agent out of South Dakota State. The 6-foot-6, 259-pound tight end excels as a blocker, and new head coach Jim Harbaugh has a penchant for focusing on the run. As such, Heins has a chance to carve out a role in a tight-end room that has one strong blocker in Will Dissly and three underwhelming blockers in Hayden Hurst, Donald Parham and Stone Smartt.
