Matt Fitzpatrick

31-Year-Old Golfer
2026 Fantasy Outlook
It seems like Fitzpatrick has been around for decades with all the career swings, but this will only be his seventh full season on the PGA Tour. In that time he's gone from underacheiver, to major winner, to stuck in a long drought and now he perhaps is on his way back to the form that won the 2022 U.S. Open. Fitzpatrick peaked during the 2022-2023 seasons, when he earned a combined $15 million and posted three wins, including the aforementioned major. Fitgerald's drought in 2024 (a season mind you, that he earned nearly $4 million) might have been a result of raised expectations. Sure, he wasn't himself for a long stretch, but he still managed to post some solid numbers. Now that expectations have been reset, Fitzgerald has a chance to over perform once again. With that in mind, Fitzgerald should be considered for salary cap leagues this season. Read Past Outlooks
Tumbles to T63 at The Amex
January 26, 2026
Fitzpatrick finished tied for 63rd at The American Express after carding a two-over 74 in the final round.
ANALYSIS
Fitzpatrick was in the top-20 on the leaderboard heading into the final round, but his performance Sunday dropped the Englishman down 43 spots to outside the top-60. He finished the tournament T13 in the field in GIR and T24 in driving accuracy, but he ranked near the bottom of the field in SG: Off the Tee and birdies made. It was Fitzpatrick's first PGA Tour event of the 2026 season, and his performance at La Quinta dropped him one spot to 23rd in the OWGR.

Fitzpatrick was seemingly marked for greatness about five years ago, and while it took a little time for him to reach an elite level, he got there in 2022 when he won his first major. Not satisfied with his accomplishments in 2022, Fitzpatrick had an even better season in 2023, capturing two wins and over $8 million in earnings. 2024 was a different story, however, as he failed to win and only posted three top-10s all season. In the end, his earnings had dropped by over 50%, and while that's bad news for Fitzpatrick, it's great news for those interested in him for salary cap purposes this season. Fitzpatrick isn't quite a "must-have" at this number, but he deserves a lot of consideration as he's bound to bounce back this season.
Expectations were high for Fitzpatrick coming off a 2021-22 campaign where he won the U.S. Open. He ended up putting together a pretty nice season earning a playoff victory at the RBC Heritage along with six top-10s. Other than that win, his only other top-five was a T2 at the BMW Championship. Fitzpatrick's added length has turned him into a contender at nearly every type of venue, and his putting and short game combination is among the best in the world. Ranking at 116th in SG: Approach and 132nd in GIR percentage is concerning, however, and is a big part of the reason he was a bit more inconsistent than some of the other top players.
Fitzpatrick certainly picked the right time to breakthrough for his first PGA Tour victory by winning the U.S. Open at the site of his U.S. Amateur triumph in 2013 at The Country Club in Brookline. The last few years we have seem massive improvements to Fitzpatrick's ball-striking and short game, which have made him a very complete player. His big gains in distance should also pay off quite well going forward. The Englishman shattered his previous best seasons on the PGA Tour with 10 top-10's and 14 top-25's in 2021-22. Fitzpatrick ended the campaign second in SG: Total and third in scoring average. Expect another strong season next year from this rising 27-year-old.
2020-21 was Fitzpatrick's highest earning season on the PGA Tour thus far. He really peaked early in the spring where he went on a T5-T11-T10-T9 stretch. Putting has always been the Englishman's biggest strength, but his ball-striking was much improved this season. Despite his lack of length, Fitzpatrick was still top-20 in SG: off-the-tee. It's kind of hard to believe that he is just 26 years of age and he is fully capable of taking the next step and getting that first PGA Tour win in 2021-22.
Fitzpatrick had a solid campaign in his first year as a full time PGA Tour member with four top-10s and only two missed cuts. His putting led the way, ranking second in strokes gained at over 0.9 per round. It was enough to keep him inside the top 20 in SG: Total for the season. The Englishman is on the shorter end, so he needs to improve with the irons to take his game to the next level.
Fitzpatrick finished atop the non-member points list last season with 665, equivalent to 71st on the FedEx list to qualify for the PGA Tour this season for the first time. The Englishman seems poised for a big season. He only missed one cut last season in stroke-play events and had some high finishes, including a solo second at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and T4 at WGC-Fed Ex St. Jude. Fitzpatrick will be one to pay close attention to at the majors - he was T12 in 2019 and 2018 at the U.S. Open. He is a bit shorter off the tee but very accurate, and his putter tends to keep him in the hunt.
