Sunday's NHL main slate is a tiny one, with just two games on the docket after 7:00 PM Eastern. The Bruins will host the Canadiens, while the Canucks will host the Oilers. Below, you'll find an overview of the matchups and suggested options for crafting an effective lineup.
SLATE PREVIEW
Both of these matchups occurred recently. The Bruins won 8-1 in Montreal on Tuesday as part of their active six-game winning streak. Boston will be heavily favored against a Canadiens team that's heading in the opposite direction, having lost seven in a row. The Oilers and Canucks just played Saturday in Edmonton, with Vancouver surprisingly coming away with a 5-2 victory.
GOALIES
Tuukka Rask ($8,800) is the obvious choice in net in this one. He owns a sparkling 2.10 GAA and .931 save percentage and his Bruins will be heavily favored at home, where they're yet to lose in regulation.
Both teams in the second game have a pair of good goalie options. It will likely be Mikko Koskinen ($8,400) taking on Thatcher Demko ($7,200) after their respective counterparts faced off Saturday. Vancouver's Demko is an enticing option given his affordability. The 23-year-old netminder has allowed two goals or fewer in five of 10 starts this season.
VALUE PLAYS/ONE-OFFS
Sean Kuraly ($3,700) has been a nice source of secondary scoring recently, chipping in five points over an active three-game point streak. The affordable center has a nice opportunity to prolong his point streak against the slumping Canadiens.
If you're making the contrarian play and targeting Canadiens, you should start with Tomas Tatar ($6,400). Tatar's two-goal game Saturday raised his team-leading point total to 24, and he's now just one goal behind Brendan Gallagher's team-high total with nine of his own.
Tanner Pearson ($4,400) dominated Saturday's game in Edmonton, finishing with two goals and two assists. Given his affordability, it's worth seeing whether the Canucks winger can carry over that strong play into the rematch one day later.
FORWARD LINE STACKS
Bruins vs. Canadiens
David Krejci (C - $6,800), David Pastrnak (W - $9,400), Brad Marchand (W - $8,700)
Krejci continues to fill in for the injured Patrice Bergeron (lower body), and the Czech center has three goals and 12 points in his last nine games. Pastrnak leads the league with 24 goals in 26 games and ranks fifth with 41 points. Marchand is one of the four men ahead of Pastrnak with 43 points, but make sure Marchand's not sidelined by illness before locking him in. The skidding Canadiens are now the second-worst defensive team in the league, allowing 3.54 goals per game.
Oilers at Canucks
Connor McDavid (C - $9,200), Leon Draisaitl (W - $8,500) Zack Kassian (W - $4,400)
McDavid (49 points) and Draisaitl (48 points) are the top two scorers in the entire NHL, while Kassian rides their coattails to plenty of easy points and has a 9-10-19 line, including a goal in Saturday's loss. Fielding a winning lineup will likely come down to picking correctly between Boston's stars and Edmonton's stars.
Canucks vs. Oilers
Bo Horvat (C - $5,800), J.T. Miller (C - $6,100), Nikolay Goldobin (W - $3,200)
While the two lines above feature four of the league's five leading scorers, this unit comes much cheaper but can still deliver strong results. Horvat has eight points in his last six games after dishing out three assists Saturday. Miller has a 4-3-7 line over an active five-game point streak, while Goldobin had 20 points in 18 AHL games before earning a recent call-up. Vancouver's lineup has been in flux recently, so double-check that this trio's still together before locking these players into a stack.
DEFENSEMEN
Torey Krug ($5,900) has scored 12 of his 18 points this season on the power play, and his success with the extra man should continue against Montreal's 73.4 percent penalty kill, which is second-worst in the league.
Quinn Hughes ($4,600) is putting together a phenomenal rookie campaign, with 22 points in 26 games. Lock the terrific passer in at just $4,600 while you still can, because his price is likely to climb before long.
Jeff Petry ($4,500) is on pace to top 40 points for the third consecutive season. The Montreal defender packs a decent offensive punch at an affordable price.
