There are only two NHL games Wednesday. More than that, the four teams in action, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Dallas, and Buffalo, don't give us an obvious team to target for daily fantasy purposes. Nevertheless, here are my recommendations for your lineup.
GOALIE
Ben Bishop, DAL vs. BUF ($8,500): Bishop is having an excellent season, as he has a 2.37 GAA and .921 save percentage. Obviously, you want to steer clear of Pittsburgh and Tampa on this front. The Sabres, on the other hand, are a mediocre offense on the second night of a back-to-back.
CENTER
Brayden Point, TAM at PIT ($8,100): You can't really get away with not paying a pretty penny for a center with these four teams. At least you know these are reliable players, such as Point, who has 30 goals and 65 points through 49 games. It's possible Matt Murray is going to start, and if he does, he's coming off a game where he allowed six goals.
Radek Faksa, DAL vs. BUF ($4,000): Faksa only has 17 points, but on the other hand he was serving as the first-line center for the Stars before the All-Star break. He's also suddenly getting power-play time. The Sabres are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back, and Linus Ullmark will likely be in net. In January, he has a 3.43 GAA and .893 save percentage.
WING
Alexander Radulov, DAL vs. BUF ($6,400): Radulov has started 60.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, highest on the Stars. That's helped him notch 41 points in 39 games, including 14 with the extra man. Buffalo has a 3.16 GAA in away games, and as previously noted it's playing the second leg of a back-to-back as well.
Ondrej Palat, TAM at PIT ($5,100): Palat has a point in six of his last eight games, giving him 20 points in 33 contests. The 27-year-old has also started 61.9 percent of his shifts in the offensive zone, tops on the Lightning. Meanwhile, the Penguins have a 3.08 GAA and have given up 32.7 shots on goal per game, and this matchup will look better if Matt Murray is starting in net.
Dominik Simon, PIT vs. TAM ($4,200): Simon has seven points in his last 10 contests, and he's skating on Pittsburgh's top line alongside Sidney Crosby. Playing with Sid the Kid is never bad for a player's fantasy potential. Like a lot of teams, the Lightning are worse defensively on the road (3.08 GAA), and they've allowed 32.4 shots on net per game as well.
DEFENSE
Esa Lindell, DAL vs. BUF ($4,000): Lindell had three points in his last two games prior to the break, giving him 20 points on the season. The Finnish defenseman skates alongside John Klingberg on Dallas' top pairing, and has averaged a hearty 24:34 per game in ice time. As previously noted, the Sabres are on the road for the second game of a back-to-back, and Linus Ullmark has a 3.43 GAA and .893 save percentage in six January outings.
Marcus Pettersson, PIT vs. TAM ($3,700): Pettersson has eight points in his last 10 games, and with Jamie Oleksiak, he could be in for an influx in minutes. On that front, the Swede played 2:48 with the extra man in Pittsburgh's last game. As I mentioned earlier, the Lightning have a 3.08 GAA on the road, which is middling.
