Gets right back in win column

Romanov defeated Rodrigo Nascimento via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Edmonton.
ANALYSIS
Known as a high-end grappler for a heavyweight with one of the worst gas tanks in the sport, Romanov held up his end of the bargain this evening. He landed four takedowns for 4:47 worth of control time in the opening round alone. Romanov got predictably less effective as the bout progressed, but Nascimento never forced him to defend at a high rate, so the big man was able to hang on and see the final bell with an obvious decision victory in hand. Romanov has some talent, but you simply have zero chance of defeating better competition if you're a one-round fighter, which Romanov has proven time and time again he is. Even with the victory, the Moldovan is just 2-3 in his last five bouts.

Will now face Nascimento
HeavyweightUFC
August 20, 2024
Romanov will take on Rodrigo Nascimento in a heavyweight bout at UFC Edmonton on Nov. 2, Nolan King of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
Romanov was initially slated to take on Derrick Lewis, but the UFC has elected to co-main event this slate and split the two up. Romanov's new opponent Nascimento is actually coming off a loss to Lewis, while Romanov himself is also reeling after dropping his last UFC bout to Jailton Almeida. With two powerful heavyweights with respectable UFC records, this should be a highly entertaining co-main event.

Romanov is scheduled to take on Derrick Lewis in a heayweight matchup at UFC Edmonton on November 2, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Romanov is coming off his third loss in his last four bouts, most recently against Jailton Almeida via submission at UFC 302 in Newark. "King Kong" has been showing signs of decline and will have to put in the work if he hopes to overcome Derrick Lewis, who is coming off a victory.
Doesn't do much in Newark

Romanov lost to Jailton Almeida via submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:27 of Round 1 at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
Unfortunately, these kinds of performances are becoming commonplace for Romanov, who was taken down in the first 30 seconds of the fight and looked lost on the ground thereafter. There was a time when Romanov was the feared grappler in the division, but the Russian seems to have lost his focus, struggling to make the heavyweight limit and showing little resolve if a fight isn't going his way. "King Kong" has now lost three of his last four fights, accounting for every defeat in his professional MMA career.
Set to fight Almeida

Romanov will fight Jailton Almeida at UFC 302 on June 1st, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Romanov will step in after Alexander Volkov opted out of the match with Jailton Almeida. The 6-foot-2 heavyweight, nicknamed "King Kong" will look to improve his record from 17 to 18 wins, though Almeida will not be an easy opponent for the Moldovan native.
Snaps brief losing streak

Romanov defeated Blagoy Ivanov via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Romanov didn't do much in this fight, but it was a much needed victory on the heels of back-to-back losses to Alexander Volkov and Marcin Tybura. This was a slow, prodding affair, which is the exact type of fight Romanov prefers. He was more active than Ivanov on the feet and landed the only two takedowns of the fight. It was a clear cut victory for Romanov, albeit an underwhelming one. Most importantly, his roster spot is now secure following the triumph.
