Lemos lost to Virna Jandiroba via submission (armbar) at 4:48 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
An aging fighter known for her stand-up skills and power, Lemos is always going to be in trouble in a prolonged mat battle, especially against a talented submission specialist like Jandiroba. Lemos managed to fight off 4-of-5 takedown attempts from her opponent, but still spent 6:27 of this mat being controlled on the mat. She survived a rear-naked choke attempt from Jandiroba late in Round 3, but once Virna transitioned to the armbar, Lemos was done. Having turned 37 years of age this past May, Amanda is 3-3 in her past six fights dating back to April 2022. It goes without saying that's not going to get the job done.

Jandiroba up next
StrawweightUFC
May 14, 2024
Lemos is scheduled to compete against Virna Jandiroba in a strawweight fight at UFC Vegas 94 on July 20, per Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl.
ANALYSIS
Lemos will continue her path to another shot at strawweight gold by fighting Jandiroba in mid-July. Following Lemos' championship-bout defeat to Zhang Weili, the Brazilian bounced back by defeating Mackenzie Dern, who subbed in for Tatiana Suarez a month beforehand.
Staggers to finish line in win

Lemos defeated Mackenzie Dern via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC 298 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
Lemos didn't win as much as she survived. Her best moments of the bout came in the first half. She fired off a couple crippling leg kicks early on that left Dern hobbled the rest of the way. The Brazilian then appeared in line for a certain knockout after dropping her opponent in Round 2, but Lemos oddly stopped firing away (she looked to run out of gas?), and Dern somehow recovered. Amanda hobbled her way to the finish line much of Round 3. As we saw in her prior bout against champion Zhang Weili and at times here against Dern, you can pin Lemos to the mat for long stretches at a time. Dern had exactly 6:00 worth of control time in this fight. This is going to be a major problem for the 36-year-old Lemos if the UFC decides to re-book the fight between her and her originally scheduled opponent for this evening, undefeated grappler Tatiana Suarez. In the meantime, and in addition to the win, Lemos will at least walk away with a $50,000 bonus after this bout was awarded Fight of the Night honors.

Undefeated opponent next

December 12, 2023
Lemos is scheduled to compete against Tatiana Suarez in a strawweight fight at UFC 298 in Anaheim on Feb. 17, according to Marc Raimondi of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Lemos will look to bounce back, though her next fight will be against Suarez, undefeated across seven UFC fights and 10 career bouts thus far. By defeating Suarez, Lemos would establish herself as a top-three strawweight contender and back in the championship hunt.
Fortunate to survive in title fight
StrawweightUFC
August 20, 2023
Lemos lost to Zhang Weili via unanimous decision (43-50, 44-50, 45-49) at UFC 292 on Saturday in Boston.
ANALYSIS
Lemos' power and grappling ability is generally enough to make her competitive in bouts, but that wasn't the case against Weili, who seldom relinquished top position on Saturday, controlling the Brazilian fighter on the ground for over 15 minutes. Lemos wasn't just dominated positionally, she also took an incredible amount of damage while on bottom, which contributed to her opponent landing a UFC women's record 296 strikes. While she was able to keep herself safe from submission attempts, Lemos was little more than a punching bag after round three, as the domination was capped by a right hand in the final frame that sent her to the canvas. Though she will always be a tough out for most of the division, it's clear after this performance that Lemos has a long way to go before she can be mentioned in the same breath as the elite.
