Shines in UFC debut

Gautier defeated Jose Medina via TKO (strikes) at 3:32 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Mexico City.
ANALYSIS
The UFC knows full well of Gautier's long-term potential, but it also knows he is a major work in progress. As a result, the company was exceedingly careful regarding who it matched him up against in his official company debut, with Medina being the eventual conclusion. Gautier entered as upwards of a -450 favored and dominated, closing the show with a beautiful knee to the face and some follow-up blows. Less than two weeks away from the 23rd birthday, Gautier is clearly a fighter to keep an eye on at 185 pounds moving forward. He'll also walk away with one of four $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses awarded on the evening.

Debuting versus Medina
MiddleweightUFC
January 7, 2025
Gautier will fight Jose Medina at UFC Mexico on March 29, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
A Contender Series victory over Yura Naito earned Gautier a UFC contract in September, and he'll now get a chance to start his UFC career strong against Medina, who has lost each of his last two professional bouts. Gautier, on the other hand, owns a five-fight winning streak heading into the event.
Gets TKO as underdog, earns contract
MiddleweightUFC

Gautier defeated Yura Naito via TKO (punches) at 4:00 of Round 2 at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series 72. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
ANALYSIS
Entering as a slight betting underdog of approximately (+130), Gautier was looking to land a highlight-reel finish in Round 1, narrowly missing on a massive knee that led to him getting taken down and spending the rest of the frame on his back. Gautier continued to load up on his shots in Round 2, but this time he was able to avoid Naito's takedown attempts and find a big overhand right. The follow-up shots sent Naito to the canvas and after some heavy ground-and-pound, the show was closed. Gautier will represent a dangerous test on the feet for any middleweight opponent given his massive, 81-inch reach. That said, there are a few holes in his game he'll need to patch up if he intends to rise up the ranks.
